This last year has led to some massive growth for me. I continue to learn about myself in deeper, more profound ways, which you can follow more intimately on Instagram. I intentionally question the stories my mind tells me about who I am, what I'm capable of, and how to show up in the world. I've made the conscious decision to show up each day, push myself outside my comfort zone, and head towards the things that I fear.
Why continue leaning into fear? Because on the other side of fear lies freedom.
What I've learned by continuing to push myself to my growth edge is that fear is an illusion.
Our mind uses fear to keep us safe. It's a defense mechanism that has been developed over millions of years of evolution. In the past, when we lived in an entirely different environment, this was useful, it was necessary, it's a tool that got us to where we are, it kept us alive.
But now, we just don't live in a world with the same type of dangers. And when we let this fear infiltrate our lives, it is no longer keeping us safe - it is killing us from the inside out.
Where do our fears and stories originate?
As humans, we are storytellers. Our minds are constantly reinforcing the stories of who we are and how we relate to the world. It creates the lens through which we perceive reality. And if we don't ever take the time to slow down and turn our attention inward, towards our thoughts and the stories that we are living, then they will continue to control our narrative and how we relate to the world around us.
We must take the time to understand where these stories, these fears, stem from.
Maybe it was something that happened when you were young - a trauma, an interaction, a failure - or maybe it was the way you were raised. Maybe it was the education system that taught you what success looked like or maybe the way your parents raised you or the societal system that you born into. Whatever it was, where ever it comes from, I know, through my own experience, that you have the power to change the narrative, to create a better story, to live the life of your dreams.
Begin the journey back to your truth.
The amount I've learned, healed, and grown over the last few years is a direct result of the time I've taken to question the stories of my reality. If we don't take the time to slow down and look at the stories we tell ourselves then we will not change, we will not grow. We will not heal.
But this is not simple, it's not an easy process. It has challenged me and forced me to grow in ways that I couldn't even imagine just a few years ago. To look in the mirror and question the stories of who we think we are is one of the most courageous acts any of us can undergo. And in order to find true happiness, fulfillment and joy, this act is necessary.
This is the journey back to Self. And what I'm beginning to realize is this is why we are all here, on this planet, during this time - to learn, to grow, to heal. This IS the ceremony of life!
So, I challenge you to lean into the fear you’re experiencing. Question why it exists, what it is trying to teach you. Use that fear to question your inner narrative. Learn. Grow. Heal.
As within, so without.
